Women, like everybody else, like to talk to others who have the same interests. If you are in a group, and you find somebody from the same city that you are from, or somebody who also likes bowling; you will have instant rapport and some attraction with this person.

You are looking to have this compatibility and rapport with the girl you are talking to, so look for something that she does, or something that she likes that you can relate. The common ground you are looking with a woman you meet, could be work, sports, favorite pursuit, pastimes, personal project, what she likes to eat, read, watch, etc.

Ask the woman you are with where she is from, and where she lived. If you know the city, talk about it. You will make her feel that you understand her, and that "you think like she thinks". When the woman you are trying to pick up is at easy with you, communication will flow comfortably, because we are ATTRACTED TO PEOPLE THAT WE CONSIDER SIMILAR TO US. This will improve the connection between the two of you very fast.

To make this work, you REALLY have to be interested in getting to know this girl, otherwise I believe, instinctively, she will pick up that you are a phony and loose interest very fast. It's not easy to fake interest where there is not. If you find yourself in this position, INSTANTLY change your approach, change the subject, change your body position, or if possible, take her out of the place where the two of you are talking. Whatever you do, do SOMETHING ELSE, before you loose this woman's attention and end your date.

This concept is called mirroring and modeling. What you are looking for, is to model the woman in front of you. Look at this woman and place your body position similar to hers, model her breathing, tone of voice, words she uses, expressions on her face, Etc. This will help you a great deal to get rapport, and she will not understand why she is attracted to you.
